The Bitch is Back

December 30th, 2007

Yeesh, eight months since I last updated? Sorry, folks. (Like anyone still reads this blog anyway…) Christmas vacation couldn’t have come sooner! I’ve updated the layout, radio, and most of the content pages so feel free to snoop.

Let me summarize the last eight months in point form:

  • Made it out of freshman year alive
  • Turned 19 and thus reached legal drinking age in BC
  • Got my first real job
  • Quit my first real job
  • Barely made it out of first semester of sophomore year alive

Yep. So basically my summer was filled with work, work, work. Being a baker was fun though, making pies and no-whip-no-foam-extra-hot soy lattes for tourists. The best part about quitting was getting back to my normal sleep schedule and snoozing past 5:30AM.

I had been so excited for school to start in September. Finally, no more English or Physics to get in the way of what I was really interested in - Chemistry. This past semester I took 2 Chemistry, Math, Biology, and German courses. Come early October, that feeling changed. Okay I’ll admit, there was a bit of slacking on my part but I didn’t think things would get as bad as they did. I held on for dear life all the way through until the end of exams. Thankfully I passed everything, but it was definitely a wake-up call. This January I’ll be taking 5 courses again: 3 Chemistry (organic, physical, analytical), 1 Math, and 1 Biology lab. Yippee.

Anywho, not much else to report. Christmas was quiet as usual, and now I am coming down with my annual Christmas holiday sickness, a.k.a. laryngitis. You’d think that after all these years I’d learn my lesson, but nope. Hope the holidays have been good to yous! I shall now get back to visiting my old online friends’ blogs and see if y’all remember me =)

Sunshine of Your Love

April 6th, 2007

Wow, last time I posted an entry was right before the end of first semester, and here I am, writing this right before the end of second semester and more importantly, the end of freshman year. Sorry ’bout that folks, I’ve just been preoccupied with schoolwork and whatnot.

Ok I’m not going to lie — half of my time’s been devoted to schoolwork, and the other half’s been spent on procrastination/hanging out/holding onto those last precious moments of teenager-dom.
I really can’t believe that I’m almost finished my first year of university. The transition has been tough, no doubt, but even with all the rough patches I’ve enjoyed it all. And while my marks aren’t quite the same as in high school, I’ve been getting decent, above-average grades.
I guess the only thing I haven’t improved upon is being social. I have made a few new buddies from all of my classes, but I don’t hang out with them outside of the lecture hall. I have basically stuck with my high school friends, which is fine, but since none of them are in the same faculty as I am, I sometimes feel alone and shut out. I know I have to get out there and develop those new friendships, but old habits definitely die hard. Sigh. Any advice?
It’s hard to encompass the last four months in a few measly sentences. Let’s see…I went to the Wolfmother concert in February, which was really great. I don’t really like a lot of newer bands (i.e. bands from 2000 and onward, haha) but they definitely rock. Lately I’ve been listening to Lily Allen’s debut CD non-stop. I’ve also become a Guitar Hero addict. If you’ve never played that game (PS2 and soon for XBOX 360) I suggest you do. I’ve found it to be more satisfying than playing real guitar because you have the whole band accompanying you and I don’t have to cut my fingernails super-short to play.

And oh dear, Facebook has definitely taken over my life.

Alright, that’s about it for now…I’ll probably be writing more frequently after the 23rd of this month (my last exam) so have patience. Thanks to those who actually visited my site the past 5 months haha, you are great.

She’s So Cold, She’s So Goddamn Cold!

December 2nd, 2006

December’s here and in a mere 2 weeks I’ll be finished my first semester of university. Oh, how time flies.
Adjusting to university life, academically and socially, has been alright. I’m not getting the marks I’m used to getting but apparently they are quite good by university standards. The early morning bus rides are more tolerable, and the pick-up soccer games definitely help get me through the tedium of the week.
Last weekend was just great. On the Saturday I went with four of my guy buddies to the Rolling Stones concert. Fan-freakin’-tastic. It was originally supposed to be on the 3rd of November but got postponed due to Mick Jagger’s throat problem. Everyone around us seemed to be smoking pot, including the lady sitting beside me who kept exhaling smoke onto my jacket. Here’s the set list:

Jumpin’ Jack Flash
It’s Only Rock ‘N Roll
Oh No, Not You Again
She Was Hot
Shine A Light (duet with Bonnie Raitt, who opened for the Stones)
Streets Of Love
Midnight Rambler
Tumbling Dice
You Got The Silver
Slipping Away
Connection
Miss You
Get Off My Cloud
Start Me Up
Honky Tonk Women
Sympathy For The Devil
Paint It Black
Brown Sugar
You Can’t Always Get What You Want
(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction

Alright, so it’s not exactly the same as seeing them 30 years ago, but I’m glad I got to see Mick, Keith, Charlie and Ronnie. Because you never know when Keith will fall out of another palm tree and die.
And thanks to Mother Nature, I didn’t have to go to school on Monday because of the huge snowfall.
Life is grand.

There’s No Stopping Us Now

September 17th, 2006

Life couldn’t get any better.
It’s been 2 weeks since I finally embarked on the 4-year journey that is university. My mind has been overstimulated — making new friends, processing piles and piles of readings and homework, and enjoying the “views”; there is definitely a greater selection of males than in high school. Coming from a tiny high school with a graduating class of a little over 100, the sheer size of the UBC campus and the student body blows my mind.
Things I like about university so far:

  • free internet all over campus and bringing laptops into class
  • meeting people from all over the world
  • the freedom to go/not go to class
  • not needing to ask to go to the bathroom during lecture
  • plenty of green grass to lie down on when it’s sunny
  • the feeling of anonymity
  • the intellectually-stimulating readings in English class

Things I don’t like about university:

  • high price of food
  • insufficient time to walk to different buildings to class (10 minutes is not enough!)
  • Physics
  • overdependence on internet for assignments/homework/labs etc.
  • professors that speak too fast

Other than that, life’s been good. School’s helped my best friends and I become even closer, which is great.
Oh, by the way, I’m going to see the Rolling Stones in November! Woo hoo.

Ain’t No Cure for the Summertime Blues

August 24th, 2006

Wow, only 11 days of summer vacation left! As with most summer vacations, I feel as if I didn’t really take advantage of all my free time - mostly spent my days expanding my pop culture knowledge; watching various cult flicks, listening to countless numbers of CDs and discographies (God bless BitTorrent), reading musician biographies, and other “arty” stuff that I don’t have time for during the school year.
Lately I’ve been thumbing through stereotypical girly magazines like Cosmo, Flare, InStyle, etc. Normally I just read the makeup tips but now I’ve been skimming through the fashion sections, trying to pick and choose a few style pointers for myself. I think university has brought on this recent obsession for being trendy because I don’t want to look like crap on campus. And as you know, fashion doesn’t come cheap, so I’ve been scouring the local thrift stores for anything remotely chic. So far I’ve only come across an argyle sweater vest, a couple of head scarves, and an Iron Maiden shirt. Oh, the thrill of the hunt.
I know it’s LONG overdue, but I finally finished my Georgia (my hostess at Hellojed.net) fanlisting! The lovely Shari is hosting it for me. I had a bit of trouble with it at first (trying to install Enthusiast but failing, problems with PHPFanList, etc.) but now it’s up and running and I couldn’t be happier with how it all turned out. I think I might update the layout though, it looks a bit plain but whatever. JOIN JOIN JOIN if you love Georgia!
That’s all for now! Take it easy.
